Schylling Tin Elephant on Bike Wind-up Toy is a wonderful retro tin toy from years gone by as the elephant pumps the peddles the ball twirls and the tassels fly as the tin toy travels about the floor. Fun for all ages to watch but is now considered a “collectable” for adults due to current toy safety standards.
The Schylling Collector Series tin toys are inspired by the tin toys of the past. They are a memory of what toys used to be. The unique artifacts are made rusing the same time-honored techniques and processes that were employed by the toymakers of bygone era.
Each tin toy starts as a flat sheet of metal that is litho printed and then cut into its many separate pieces. The pieces are collected and carried in baskets to the first stamping machine. Each small piece is picked up, positioned, punched and passed on to the next stamping machine. After many such steps all the pieces are eventually formed and the meticulous hand assembly can begin.
Because this is such a labor intensive process it is easy to see why tin toy manufacturing was abandoned when plastic injection molding was developed. Now tin toys are sought after by collectors around the world.
