So in the world of Art Of Toys this means taking toys and incorporating them into works of art. Now I occasionally hesitate on some art when it ruins perfectly good toys for arts sake but I do love to see a toy get a second life as art sustaining it and making it part of a bigger world. Nothing like recycling into art! I now save parts and pieces of toys hoping that some creative artist will put them to use vs the trash heap.

Art Of Toys  gallery shows have been privilaged to feature several great  “Assemblage” artists including two established California artists Rebecca Casey and David Komar. Both artists take toys and incorporate than into their art creating wonderful sculptures.

Rebecca Casey was born in San Mateo, CA. and grew up in “Silicon Valley”. Creativity and a passion for art were always at the core of her world.  She continuously pursued classes and instruction in various mediums while raising a family and managing a service bureau providing design to high technology companies. To take her art one step further she has created a collection of characters that incorporate toys into her ceramic pieces. One of Rebecca’s pieces can be seen in current Art Of Toys website header…graces my home staircase!

Based in California, Canadian/American artist, David Komar focuses on unusual approaches to sculpture using recycled objects to create his pieces. He has been collecting hundreds of childhood plastic toys and using them in arrangements to make sculptures, waterfalls, and even decorative lights from water pistols. The August Show will have one wall piece by David.

Most of Art Of Toys jewelry artists could also be called Assemblage artists since they use toys in their jewelry. emiko oye of San Francisco recycles Legos into fabulous jewelry and Lori Kirsch tops off her incredible bead work with a toy.

So back to question, “What is Toy Assemblage?” A snazzy term for recycling sustainable toys into fun and fantastic art!
