I have always loved this line and am proud to have their wonderful products online and in the gallery. It is wonderful to still see a toy line made in the USA!
Other than the silly-yet-sophisticated mascot, no one at Uncle Goose wears a suit to work. It’s not that they don’t care how they look. Take one glance at their products, and you’ll see how much they love inspired design. As artists and creative craftspeople, they can’t take themselves suit-and-tie seriously.
Uncle Goose makes wooden blocks. they handcraft every set in Grand Rapids, Michigan, using choice materials from around the Great Lakes. And yes, they are 100% made in the USA.
As you might suspect, working at a toy company can be an entertaining way to earn a living. A spirited worker might concoct a contest based on how graceful we can look while packing products. An embossing mishap once transformed into a 15,000-block castle in the middle of the shop floor…all for a social media post. And during the holiday rush, at least one of our employees will embrace the cliché and dress like a frolicsome yet hardworking elf.
While they are a playful lot, they are also socially and environmentally considerate. They source their products using fast-growing sustainable basswood. And Uncle Goose uses non-toxic, child-safe inks on all the blocks.
Why such fastidious attention to detail? One hundred years from now, a child will be playing and learning with the same set of heirloom blocks we made today. Our products need to do more than look photogenic: they need to embody what it means to be beautiful and sustainable.
