Artist Statement:
I like to think of my Father Christmas and Krampus figures as a quiet reflection on the grace, simplicity and commonality of the human experience a remembrance of a by-gone time, an era called to mind by the heart. Judy Barclift is a self-taught artist who has been practicing her craft for more than forty years. By careful and thoughtful observation she has learned to recognize and embrace the inner soul â the essence of the beings portrayed in her one-of-a-kind sculpts, and to bring them to in her polymer clay figures. These time-elusive figures are created in celebration of a more simple, honest time, a time of wonder and innocence still yearned for in the hearts of every man, woman and child. I hope viewers will be drawn to the innocence and wonder of their childhood through my work — if but for just a moment, transported a step back in time. Judy Barclift lives with her husband, Don and their cat, Cali in a rustic, hand-built home in The Land of All Things Right and Relevant (AKA Davis, Ca.). She specializes in creating delightful, holiday-themed one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted art dolls. Santa’s, elves, gnomes, witches and other beings inspired by the customs, folklore and practices of the past grace the tables of her studio. Her work has most recently been featured in Art Doll Quarterly and Dolls magazines.
