This morning I watched my favorite Sunday Morning show (which I record to zip thru the commercials and watch when I can) and there was this (grrr it makes me angry even to come up with a term for him) a guy who was basically selling his book that Sunday Morning was using as an authority. According to this “Guy” consumers are idiots to pay retail!
Well if you think think that those big box stores are actually giving you 50% or more off then yes you are an idiot!
We are moving to a time where are only options will be to buy in the big box and online. Marketing and markdowns are built in the price before they hit the shelves!!!! This is a problem for innovative manufacturers as well for they have to be able to produce products that will go into this market. When selection in these stores is somewhat limited it is due to the lack of product available to compete at the margins asked for.
The show also had a brief segment about using small stores as a showroom to check out product then go online to shop..PLEEEEEEZE! I hope they get so much hot mail for this…how long do you think small stores will be able to be “Showrooms” not long. Bah humbug!
