Marca’s Gallery

Marca Castillo was born in the early 70’s and started making fantasy dolls almost 10 years ago. She got the doll bug from her mother who collects antique dolls and learned how to restore them. Her first doll was the result of the frustration from not being able to afford a beautiful Merlin doll she once saw at a Gallery. She writes, ” I took my mother’s materials, and voila! My first creature was forced into this world; not quite Merlin-looking but “interesting” nonetheless. After that, my doll-making had to fight for time when I started studying Architecture. After two years of having fun designing structures and not sleeping too much, I decided that I was madly in love with design but the WHOLE of the career wasn’t quite what I was looking for… so I decided that maybe being an architect wasn’t as fun as making dolls. Years after, I graduated as an Executive Chef; and then finished a Hotel and Catering Management Diploma, I worked happily in that field many years. I married and, as a result, my doll-making is now the major part of my professional life. I believe that the creatures I make exist in some other reality; and I have the honor to be among those who can give them a tangible existence in our world. Elves, wizards, gnomes, fairies, among other creatures constitute the spine of my work. I also do custom work if the subject belongs to the fantasy realm. It’s so fulfilling to create them, the attachment is inevitable, but it is rewarding to see them going with people that will love them just as much. My work is meant to look after and be friends with that special one that shall share their existence. They can provide ears to listen to this person’s needs and sentiments and also show to those that may get involved with them a sense of serenity and well-being. My goal is to keep alive the world of the imagination and give these little fellows a chance to test their nature in our world while they bring a surprising touch to our human lives.
