Infants and Digital Devices

Just shared an article from ToyNews to facebook about infants and digital devices. Beyond the Star Trek fans and other Sci-fi aficionados who would believe this would even be a concern say even as little as 10 years ago.

If children can do a tablet but cannot swim, walk or even talk our world is a changing. In a survey of 2,000 parents from the across the UK, it was also revealed that 30 per cent of two to four year olds own a tablet and spend an average of two hours and 35 minutes on digital devices a day.

I guess that would be the equivalent of children being plopped in front of the TV to be babysat by Sesame Street or Barney or even good ol Howdy Doody.

The reference article was from an optical company so most was around what this is doing to the kids eyes but I want t o know what is it doing to their ability to communicate verbally with others or just to discover there own surroundings.

To protect kids and your own eyes they listed a 20/20/20 rule… every 20 minutes take a 20 second break from screen and stare at something 20 feet away… I’m adding this to my excuse not to be writing.

I walk 7 blocks to work everyday and I try to greet at least 10 people on the walk with “Good Morning” now living in California in a city you would think this would be a simple challenge but I have found the teen and 20 something group look at their phone or feet while walking so my question is WHY? If this group has already turned into tech zombies what are the infants of today going to be like? Will they be able to communicate with people out of there text circle?
