I love to see kids that have started collecting…anything! When kids are taught to collect, document and preserve they learn a lot more than just getting more stuff. When children come into the gallery and share their collections it is always a treat, especially when they are collecting toys or art.
When my daughter was growing up we loved to go antiquing (her dad and I not my daughter) so to keep her interested and distracted we encourage to start collecting something in many of the junk and antique stores that was somewhat affordable…California Raisins was her quest. She learned to negotiate some tough dealers down for what she felt was a fair price and slowly built her little collection that was her treasure. She still has that box of raisins and someday I hope she will share with another lil collector.
Anything can be collected for a child just teach him to keep it organized and treasured… when growing up I had a friend with a booger collection which I cannot imagine ever having value if it had survived but he had it organized and dated…the system was in place…. collect an enjoy!
