Collecting anything-stamps, old bottles, primitive tools or baseball cards- has many self-satisfying rewards. Finding a rare or perfect condition piece in some junk shop is like discovering gold. Every antique shop or flea market provides the thrill of the hunt and the chance to meet others who share a collecting interest.
Each item in a collection becomes a trophy that the collector has found, bought, won in an auction, or otherwise traded to obtain. To collect is to succeed at your own pace under whatever terms and goals you set for yourself. Collecting provides a comfortable niche in a highly competitive world-one that the collector controls- as opposed, for example, to job or other pressures they cannot. And every collector “knows” that is they lose interest, they “can get more” than they paid when the collection is sold.
Everything is collected by somebody. The number of what might consider to be the “oddball” collector’s items can be confirmed in any collecting journal. However, ask any antique/collectibles dealer about the most popular collecting categories. They’ll tell you that Disneyana is among the strongest- and growing.
