Description
Pulled from the murky depths of some forgotten mud quarry, Mudpie emerges with wing-like ears spread wide and a gap-toothed grin that’s equal parts endearing and unsettling. This earthy brown creature seems caught mid-expression—surprised? delighted? plotting mischief? The beauty is in the ambiguity.
About the Piece
Textile artist Terri Rehg builds her creatures intuitively, always beginning with the eyes and letting each face reveal itself stitch by stitch. Mudpie came to life through layered felt in warm brown tones, creating rich dimensional texture that shifts as light moves across the surface. The result is a creature with genuine personality—simultaneously monstrous and lovable.

About the Artist
Terri Rehg has been creating toys and textile art since childhood, formally studying textiles and spending a lifetime mastering the craft of toy making. The oldest of eight children in a tight-knit artistic family, she formerly signed her work as “Sis” (pre-2022). Her creatures emerge organically through the meditative process of needle and thread, making each piece utterly unique.

Artist Statement: Discovering the faces that live within the canvas with the stroke of a needle is a journey with each piece created. It all starts with the eyes and builds from there and magically a new creature is born. The series in gray was first conceptualized as a canvas piece to paint on but so much came from the stark gray that the series continues to grow each piece totally different and unique.
