Description
Caught mid-frolic! Big Blue bursts from his lime-green plaque in an explosion of cobalt felt and textural abundance. That single bloodshot eye peers out from beneath dramatic ruffled brows—one smooth, one covered in intricate embroidered scales that add reptilian texture. A bulbous nose protrudes prominently, while hand-sculpted polymer teeth jut out at chaotic angles beneath a shock of green fuzzy beard. The pièce de résistance? A waffle-cone horn rising from his head like he’s part mythical beast, part ice cream fantasy. Layered felt ruffles in varying shades of blue create dimensional depth and movement.
About the Piece
Part of Terri Rehg’s Monster Series, Big Blue showcases the artist’s playful approach to monster making—this creature clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously. The combination of luxurious felt textures, whimsical details (that ice cream cone horn!), and bold color choices creates a piece that’s simultaneously sophisticated in craft and gleefully absurd in concept. Mounted on a vibrant lime-green circular plaque, the complementary color pairing makes both the blue and green pop with maximum visual impact.

Textile Artist Terri Rehg
Artist Statement: Discovering the faces that live within the canvas with the stroke of a needle is a journey with each piece created. It all starts with the eyes and builds from there and magically a new creature is born. The series in gray was first conceptualized as a canvas piece to paint on but so much came from the stark gray that the series continues to grow each piece totally different and unique.
Terri has been creating toys since she was a child and studied Textiles in school. Learning the craft of the toy maker is a dream that has taken a life time to achieve and now is able to incorporate into her artwork.. The oldest of eight children she has been “Sister” to a wonderful tight knit family that shares many artists in their flock. Pre2022 signed her work as “Sis”.
