The inaugural piece in the Large Dragon Head series pays homage to traditional taxidermy trophy mounts—with a whimsical textile twist. Hundreds of hand-cut and embroidered felt scales in warm golds and browns create a dimensional hide. Sculptural curved horns, polymer teeth, shell-adorned eyes, and wood-tipped details bring this creature to life. Each scale individually stitched and appliquéd by hand. Mounted on natural wood slice. Protected with Scotchguard.

Terri Rehg has been creating toys since childhood, a passion that led her to study textiles at California State University Sacramento, UC Davis, American River College, and through numerous workshops including 4-H. The oldest of eight children in an artistic family, she signed her work as “Sis” while running Art Of Toys, a brick-and-mortar gallery, where she exhibited incognito until COVID forced its closure in 2022. Now working from Humboldt, California, Terri continues her lifelong exploration of textile arts at artoftoys.com, increasingly incorporating upcycled materials. Her 2025 studies at Haystack Mountain School of Arts in Maine deepened her mastery of traditional Rya weaving techniques, which she combines with soft sculpture to create whimsical yet sophisticated creatures.
