Description
Nippon Jollikid bisque character doll, manufactured in Japan between 1891 and 1921. These small, all bisque figurines featured molded clothing (Blue overalls), a chubby molded tuft of hair, and movable jointed arms at shoulders.
“Jollikid Nippon” refers to a vintage type of small doll or figurine marked “Jollikid” and “Nippon”, typically produced in Japan during the early-to-mid 20th century (similar to vintage Kewpie or Happifats-style novelty dolls/figurines from the Occupied Japan or pre-war era) During World War 1, Japanese doll makers stepped up to replace German exported in the global market. Under the McKinley Tariff Act, items made during this specific window were explicitly stamped or incised with the country name “Nippon” rather than “Japan” which became standard after 1921. The original Jollikid sticker is partially intact and covers the incised “Nippon” . This cute 4” doll is in good condition for it’s age with no cracks, but there is a small chip on back right armhole that I noticed when blowing up photos.
