Vintage Doll Baby Bud Googlie Eye 1925-32

Vintage doll Baby Bud Googlie Eye 1925-32 is a frozen bisque Googlie Eye. Darling Baby Bud  has movable arms and fantastic eyelashes that bat a come hither look! She is approximately 7 1/4″ tall and is in great shape! She is marked “MADE IN JAPAN” on back and has a bob style molded hairdo that has been painted blond. There is a tiny chip on underside of right toe that is not seen when standing. The detail on face is really well done with expression to boot. The sculpt on the right arm is a bit messy almost looking like it had been replaced but I believe it is original. 1940s-50

This Kewpie influence is very obvious, with the body possibly molded from a German Kewpie. Some Modern artists use the odd word “tweekled” to express this type of stealing. In their parlance this means that the original doll has bits added or subtracted by means of modeling clay or sanding- a la Baby Bud. According to Butler Brothers Catalog these dolls at 5 5/8 were shown sold out in 1925 and 1932 a 7 1/2 size was selling at 72 cents:
