Description

The anti-Santa himself, captured for year-round display. This chocolate-brown Krampus head emerges from a halo of luxurious cream-colored wool fur, his amber-ringed eyes gleaming with mischievous intent. Curved ivory horns rise from his head in classic devil-goat fashion, while dimensional facial sculpting creates deep-set features—prominent cheekbones, a bulbous nose, and that knowing smirk. Shell bead teeth flash beneath hand-embroidered eye sockets that seem to follow you around the room. The contrast between the rich brown felt and pale flowing fur creates a striking “light versus dark” aesthetic befitting this legendary trickster of Alpine folklore.

About the Piece

Part of Terri Rehg’s Monster Series, this Krampus trophy brings European holiday folklore to life through American folk art techniques. In Austrian and German tradition, Krampus is the demonic counterpart to St. Nicholas—a horned, goat-like figure who stalks the streets during the holiday season with bells and chains, rewarding the naughty with switches instead of presents. Terri’s interpretation captures his devilish charm while making him approachable enough for year-round display. Mounted on natural wood that complements the brown and cream palette, he’s equal parts folklore and fiber art.

Materials & Construction

One-of-a-kind mixed media soft sculpture featuring hand-stitched chocolate-brown felt, dimensional facial sculpting, hand-embroidered eye sockets with amber-painted details, cream-colored wool fur mane and beard, sculpted ivory horns, shell bead teeth, poly fill, and natural wood plaque with bark edge. The entire piece has been clear-coated for protection and durability.

Dimensions

  • Overall: 13″ tall x 11″ wide x 8″ deep (approximate)

Display

Ready to hang. Krampus works equally well as seasonal December décor or year-round conversation piece for folklore enthusiasts. The flowing wool fur and dimensional horns create dramatic presence, while the natural wood plaque grounds the piece in rustic authenticity.

Drawing on her years in the toy industry and time working for Disney, she explores the open-ended realm of fantasy imagination through what she calls her “laboratory of quirky.” Her work combines soft sculpture, embroidery, and sculpting techniques to create creatures that blur the line between textile art and dimensional storytelling.
