Description
The legendary punisher of naughty children, ready for his seasonal rounds. This luxurious black faux-fur Krampus sits poised with basket on back, golden chain “holiday bling” draped across his red felt vest, and that blood-red tongue lolling out in wicked anticipation. Magnificent cream-colored horns with hand-stitched segmented detail curve upward from his head, while tufted wool ears and embroidered amber eyes give him an alert, predatory expression. Sharp white claws extend from both hands and hooved feet, and gold zigzag trim accents his festive vest. The woven basket strapped to his back awaits its cargo of switches—or perhaps poorly-behaved children.
About the Piece
Part of Terri Rehg’s collection of folklore-inspired creatures, this full-bodied Krampus brings European Alpine tradition to three-dimensional life. In Austrian, Bavarian, and other Central European traditions, Krampus is the horned, half-goat, half-demon companion to Saint Nicholas—rewarding misbehaving children with switches and scares instead of presents. Terri’s interpretation is both authentic to the folklore and approachable as art, with fully jointed limbs allowing endless posing possibilities. The combination of luxury materials (that soft black faux fur!), traditional details (basket, chains, horns), and whimsical touches (holiday bling!) creates a piece that honors the legend while celebrating handcraft.

About Krampus Folklore
In European tradition, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure—half-goat, half-demon—who punishes misbehaving children during the Christmas season, in contrast with Saint Nicholas who rewards good behavior. Krampus appears in traditional parades and Krampuslauf (Krampus runs) throughout Alpine regions, and is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten. The origin of the figure is unclear, with some folklorists suggesting pre-Christian roots.
About the Artist
Terri Rehg is a California-based textile artist who creates whimsical characters, monsters, and dragons using mixed media. Drawing on her years in the toy industry and time working for Disney, she explores the open-ended realm of fantasy imagination through what she calls her “laboratory of quirky.” Her work combines soft sculpture, embroidery, and sculpting techniques to create creatures that blur the line between textile art and dimensional storytelling. The oldest of eight children in a tight-knit artistic family, she formerly signed her work as “Sis” (pre-2022).
