About the Piece

The latest addition to Terri Rehg’s monochrome Gray Series gaggle, Jazz Man Monster represents the artist’s continued exploration of character and personality through textile sculpture. His elongated proportions and vertical stance give him theatrical presence, while carefully placed joints allow subtle repositioning. True to the series origin, he began with those expressive golden marble eyes—everything else emerged stitch by deliberate stitch.

One-of-a-kind mixed media soft sculpture featuring hand-stitched gray canvas, jointed construction, rolling golden marble eyes, bone-beaded teeth, black velvet top hat, black velvet bow tie, sculpted spats with button details, and poly fill. Designed to stand upright with support. Each element crafted by hand in Terri’s California studio.

About the Artist

Terri Rehg is a California-based textile artist who creates whimsical characters, monsters, and dragons using mixed media. Drawing on her years in the toy industry and time working for Disney, she explores the open-ended realm of fantasy imagination through what she calls her “laboratory of quirky.” Her work combines soft sculpture, embroidery, and sculpting techniques to create creatures that blur the line between textile art and dimensional storytelling. The oldest of eight children in a tight-knit artistic family, she formerly signed her work as “Sis” (pre-2022).
