Description
All eyes on you—literally. Monster Fro watches the world through three bright blue eyes strategically positioned to catch every angle. His glorious crown of golden-brown curls cascades in every direction, each ringlet hand-twisted to create a magnificent dimensional ‘fro that’s equal parts majestic and wild. Deep brown felt skin shows expert dimensional sculpting—notice those cheekbones, that prominent nose, the carefully crafted facial structure. Purple lips part to reveal a scattered collection of beaded teeth (definitely overdue for a dental appointment), while those three brilliant blue eyes peer out from beneath the curly canopy with knowing intensity.
About the Piece
Part of Terri Rehg’s Monster Series, Monster Fro showcases the artist’s mastery of both soft sculpture and hair construction. Each curl in that spectacular ‘fro was individually twisted and positioned by hand—a labor-intensive process that creates incredible texture and movement. The three-eye configuration is unusual even within this collection, giving him an almost mythological quality. Mounted on natural wood that complements his warm brown tones, he’s a statement piece with serious presence.

Textile Artist Terri Rehg
Artist Statement: Discovering the faces that live within the canvas with the stroke of a needle is a journey with each piece created. It all starts with the eyes and builds from there and magically a new creature is born. The series in gray was first conceptualized as a canvas piece to paint on but so much came from the stark gray that the series continues to grow each piece totally different and unique.
Terri has been creating toys since she was a child and studied Textiles in school. Learning the craft of the toy maker is a dream that has taken a life time to achieve and now is able to incorporate into her artwork.. The oldest of eight children she has been “Sister” to a wonderful tight knit family that shares many artists in their flock. Pre 2022 signed her work as “Sis”.
